We at Liberty Run Goldens are committed to improving the Golden Retriever Breed, just like we have dedicated ourselves to caring for our environment. With both Golden Retrievers and the environment, it's not just a bunch of talk, like it is with so many other breeders. We live it. The two turbines (pictured at left) generate all the electricity we need here on our farm. And with respect to breeding, there's more to it than just pedigrees and health certificates. Yes, they're a good start -- and we have original OFA, SAS and CERF clearances on our parents (you get copies) -- but they are not the whole picture. When you visit, we'll show you the most important part of a breeding program. We purposely are not putting it on our website because all the back-yard breeders will steal the info and begin using it just like they've done with so much other content on this site (which has been up and running since 1994). Just don't forget to ask us about it when you visit!

Liberty Run Goldens is dedicated to improving the Golden Retriever breed. Intentions aside, it takes adequate facilities to accomplish such a mission. Sure, we could have stuffed our goldens in crates and confined them to a basement in some suburban home, but we took a different approach. Instead, we moved to southern Carroll County, Maryland -- an area populated by farms and tractors, not homes and mini-vans. Sure, it's not close to malls, but we have ponds and fields right outside our back door. It's like having a Golden "test track" right in our back yard. Because we run, swim, and train our dogs, we know they are well balanced, healthy, and happy -- ideal candidates for producing healthy, smart and confident puppies.

We knew when we first moved into our home that it needed many repairs. It had been neglected for so long. And we knew when beginning to breed Goldens that it was a breed plagued with health problems. In the same way that we have successfully renovated our home, we strive to improve the Golden Retriever breed. The renovations to buildings can easily be seen by viewing "before" and "after" photos. Everett takes a break while building Liberty Run's newest building.

Our most recent building was designed and engineered by Patrick. The tough part of the project, building the structure, was lead by Everett Garey who is pictured at left. He was helped by Mike, Greg, Patrick, Ruth, and Phil -- (thanks guys!).

The building is a state of the art facility admired by each and every veterinarian that has visited, not to mention the humane society and county inspectors. Wrought Iron doors. Radiant heat. The internet's first puppy cam so you can see our kennel from the comfort of your computer. Of course, the best way to see it is in person, and we welcome you to visit at your convenience (please call to let us know you're coming -- that way we can be sure to be here when you arrive).

Everything is very transparent here at Liberty Run. In other words, we have nothing to hide from you. It's all out in the open for you to see and inspect. We're the same way with sharing information, too. You get the whole truth -- like 5 generation pedigrees, for example. Most breeders show only 3 generations now because, we speculate, they don't want you to see all of the inbreeding and line breeding in their pedigrees. You won't find inbreeding or line breeding in our pedigrees, and we have 5 generations worth of lineage to prove it.

You may think that a puppy born on a quiet, ol' farm would be incapable of surviving in your environment. This is far from true! Here at Liberty Run, we go to a great extent to socialize our pups. They never flinch at the sound of loud farm equipment, our Harley motorcycles, or even thunderstorms. We surround our puppies with many different people, too. Young and not-so-young. So the puppies are used to lots of people. What we don't do is allow our four home-schooled kids to spend too much time with one specific puppy. They're excellent at giving each one equal time.

We start our puppies on crate training for you. As a result, most of our pups are house broken in less than three days. How? Stop on by and we'll show you how it's done. Because our puppies never had the opportunity to make a "mistake" (unlike breeders who tout puppies raised in their homes where the pups can poop and pee all over the place), it's very easy for you to house train our puppies. When you think about it, house breaking a puppy is really teaching him or her how to "hold it". Good luck teaching a puppy who is already conditioned at a young age by other breeders who have allowed their puppies to go at will inside. You'll spend most of your time un-doing all the harm caused by those other guys who say they raise their pups inside. If you ask us, a pup raised in such a way that it can poop and pee all over the house at will is a detriment. Good luck teaching that puppy to hold it in your house!
